A Yoga Sutras Advanced Study for Monkeys

An in-depth exploration of the Patanjali Yoga Sutras.

The 195 aphorisms structured within four chapters compose this time-tested sacred text that has for millennia guided the practices of the many schools of Yogic teaching. The great power of this work is in its simplicity and its focus upon practical application of spiritual principles.

We will cover all 4 chapters in this course, including Deepening your awareness and understanding of the structure, experiences and necessity of meditation as presented in Chapter 1. Appreciating the breadth and incorporating the lifestyle teachings enumerated in Chapter 2. Explore the deeper meanings and effects of the meditation sutras as outlined in the Sutras Chapter 3. Clarifying what are the long-term effects of these meditations as covered in Chapter 4.

Many of you have been asking for a Monkey 3. This course is open to anyone who has completed Monkey 1, so it is technically not a Monkey 3.

For decades I have been studying various translations and commentaries on the Patanjali Yoga Sutras. Since Monkey classes to date have focused heavily upon the Bhagavad Gita, it is time to do a course where I can share insights into another of the world’s most sacred texts.

This course is open to anyone who has completed Monkey 1, so it is technically not a Monkey 3.

The other thing that many of you have asked about for so long, and I have avoided teaching, is the deeper meanings and effects of the sutras used in meditation. My unwillingness to teach, what is often times misunderstood as powers for their own sake has subsided, largely due to your longstanding commitment to meditative practice and my understanding and appreciation of the depth of your collective experience in the Silence.

The Siddhis, which are largely covered in the third chapter of the Yoga Sutras, have delineated human potentials that go way beyond what is experienced by humanity for the most part in today’s world. As many teachers, and Patanjali as well have stated, to focus upon developing them as powers ends up being a barrier and not an enhancement to spiritual evolution.

The value in learning more about these sutras comes instead from using them as we have for years, to take you deeper into the Unbounded; while allowing your mind to appreciate the expanded qualities of spiritual realization that results from the alternating combination of deep meditation and this transformational knowledge.
